So Macho - Paper Issues

Happy Saturday everyone!

I am back today with a masculine layout to share.  Recently, while I was putting my layouts into albums, I noticed that I scrap my daughters way, way more (I mean, really, WAY more) than I do my son, or even my husband. I decided I had better do something about that, so I created this layout using the awesome My Mind's Eye Hey Mister collection that I purchase from the Paper Issues on-line store.

The Hey Mister collection is so perfect for scrapping all of your guys, no matter the age. I just love the weightlifter guys and knew I had the perfect photo ... My son and his friends showing off their muscles.

I used a variety of the journal cards from the collection to create my background. They aren't just for pocket pages! There are lots of fun die cut ephemera pieces as well. I love the foil accents on some pieces, like the tab I place above my photo.

I added some fun puffy stickers and enamel dots too. The title was made using a digital cut file from JustNick Studios called Handcut Letters.

My layout design was inspired by a sketch over at Creative Scrappers. I did take a lot of liberties with the sketch though.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
With Father's Day coming up, you really need to stock up on a collection that you can use to scrap Dad and a whole lot more! Use my coupon code and save 20%.

I Love Fall and This Makes Him Happy - Simple Stories

Hello blogging friends!

I am back with more Simple Stories Hello Fall layout inspiration. Fall is hands down my favorite season, when all the trees are in full color and my favorite pumpkin spice coffee returns. I don't think I am alone there though ... my niece looks like she definitely enjoys those colorful Autumn leaves too. This layout is titled 'I Love Fall'

I used a chevron background digital cut file from Creative Scrappers. I like it for my Fall pictures because those chevrons help mimic the movement of falling leaves. A little machine stitching over them creates some texture too. I added some fun fall phrase stickers from the combo sticker sheet.

I love the look of pure joy on my niece's face as she is tossing leaves into the air. A JustNick circle frame, cut from woodgrain paper found in the Sn@p Basics pack, and leaf die cuts frame my photo.

A combination of stickers and bits and pieces die cuts make up my title.

My second layout; 'This Makes Him Happy', documents something my nephew likes to do in the Fall, deer hunting using his bow.

Arrows from a JustNick Studios digital cut file are lined up on my background paper, another woodgrain paper from the Sn@p Basics pack. I love these woodgrain papers with the Hello Fall collection!

A 3x4 journal card helps express his love of Fall too. I used more masculine embellishments here in my clusters, like the chipboard woodpile and bits and pieces corn stalk.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a great weekend!

Beach Closed - Cocoa Vanilla Studios

Hello blogging friends!

This month Cocoa Vanilla Studios is sponsoring an awesome sketch blog; Creative Scrappers. Kristine Davidson does an amazing job creating the sketches. Here is the October sketch she sent us.

  creative-scrappers-299

All the Cocoa Vanilla Studios designers played along creating a layout using a different collection. I used the fabulous Hello Sunshine collection. I love the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Hello Sunshine collection for scrapping photos from a winter getaway my husband and I took to Hawaii. February is the raining season in Hawaii, and it rained almost every day we were there. Beaches were closed because the surf was unbelievably rough too. That didn't stop us from checking out the sites. When you are from Minnesota where February temps are way below freezing, it was a joy to be warm again ... even if we were wet. Beach photos are especially suited to this collection. The color palette compliments the sand and the waves so well. In my layout I wanted to emphasize that rough surf. I did this by cutting my photo into 4 parts and staggering them so it would appear the surf was higher. Here is my layout ...

  beachclosed

I clustered some clouds to the right of my photo ... perfect to convey the rainy day with a few peeks of sunshine. Layers of die cut ephemera are mixed with woodies, fancy buttons, and enamel shapes.

I love the wood veneer pieces ... this bicycle is amazing!

I balanced out the left side of my layout with this anchor flair button along with more woodies and enamel shapes. I cut my Beach title from 2 different pattern papers using my Silhouette and then layered them ... adding the 'closed' using alpha stickers from Hello Lovely.

Summer Fun - JustNick Studios

Hello blogging friends!

I hope you all had a fabulous Labor Day weekend! I am sharing a JustNick Studios layout today. Nicole challenged us this week to use at least 3 cut files on our layouts this week. An easy task ... because all the cut files are so amazing. I had some camping photos from this summer to scrap so here is what I came up with. I used 4 cut files. Two of which are new; the Rustic Leaf Frame and the Vine Background. These were perfect for camping photos.

I used papers and embellishments from Pretty Little Studio. They don't have 12x12 papers ... 8x8 is the largest size! I love my pattern papers when creating a layout, so I was wondering what to do when I saw this Creative Scrapper's sketch from August. The smaller paper sizes would work here and I could use the new Rustic Leaf Frame for the circle element.

Here is a closer look at that Rustic Leaf Frame. This is one of my favorite new cut files released. I sized the frame so a 5x5 photo would fit perfectly ...

I trimmed the Vine Background down so that I only used a small part of it along the side of my layout and stitched over the top to add some texture.

I combined the Summer Words and the WORD 2 digital cut file to create my title...

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks for stopping by today. Check out all the awesome new cut files in the store.

Today - Clique Kits

Hello blogging friends! I had to scrap another wedding layout with the January Clique Kit Tailor Made full of Amy Tangerine's Stitched papers, stickers, and alphas. The flower paper was just so pretty, I thought it would be perfect to scrap a photo of my daughter in our home before heading out for the ceremony. Did you know Clique Kits has an Anything Goes challenge running through January? It's sponsored by Creative Embellishments, one of my favorite on-line stores! You could win a $25 gift certificate!! Use something from Creative Embellishments and get an extra entry. You do not need to use a Clique Kit to enter. This is open to everybody!

I used the latest sketch at Creative Scrappers, flipped on it's side...

I created a soft look with punched borders and a doily (from Top Dog Dies of course) and I used the vellum from my November Clique Kit. I finished these gorgeous laser cut chipboard birds from Creative Embellishments with a Inka Gold Metallic Rub. LOVE that stuff!

Some gold thread and pretty Prima flowers make an elegant statement.

I hope you will play along with our Clique Kits challenge this month!
Thanks for stopping by.

Top 10 of 2014!

Hello blogging friends! I am sharing some of my favorite projects of 2014 in a fun hop with an awesome prize up for grabs that you can win just by commenting on the participating blogs. What prize you ask ...  why a $75 Gift Certificate to Paper Issues!!!!  The more you comment, the better your chances of winning. $75 can buy a lot of scrappy goodies that Santa didn't bring you!

Have we got an awesome hop for you, WOW! Take a look at this line-up.

Marcia Dehn-Nix <----- you are here.

You should have arrived from the amazing Jen Matott's blog. If not, you may want to jump back to start at the beginning. I tried really hard to whittle my list down to 10, but settled on 14 instead, (14 for 2014) Here are my favorites in no particular order. Links to download free cut files are included on a few.

I created this layout for Creative Scrappers using sketch #271. The paper is Echo Park Splendid Sunshine and Simple Stories Fresh Air.

This layout I had published in the September issue of Papercrafts and Scrapbooking Magazine and was created with Echo Park's Fall Reflections. That chevron cut file was a freebie. You can download it from Creative Scrappers here.

Here is a card I created for Xyron using the Graphic 45 By The Sea collection. The wood veneer nautical wheel is from Creative Embellishments.

Here is a layout created with some Doodlebug Snips and Snails collection.

I created this layout for Imaginisce using a PageMaps sketch. It won me an awesome prize from My Creative Scrapbook. The papers are from the Perfect Vacation collection.

Another Imaginisce  project for Thanksgiving using the Bushel O' Fall papers.

This Imaginisce layout was to be published by Northridge Publishing, and now I fear I will never see it again. They never returned it to me along with 2 other layouts. The papers are from the Outdoor Adventure and Colors of Christmas collections. If you would like my snowflake circles cut file, it can be downloaded here. After I went through all the work of welding those circles and snowflakes together I figured others might as well benefit from it :)

I created this layout for Love My Tapes. It too is based off sketch #267 from Creative Scrappers and uses the Santa's List collection from Teresa Collins.

This Easter banner makes me happy with its colored burlap and whimsical Imaginisce Welcome Spring papers and die cuts.

Imaginisce has an awesome new collection called Family Fun that I used to create these cards...

I am in love with the trendy triangles, Pinkfresh Studio chevrons, and washi tape on this next layout I created for Clique Kits. Their October kit featured Basic Grey's Second City and was my favorite kit so far. Be sure to check out their store. They have a massive clearance sale going on right now. If you use coupon code Marcia10 you can get an additional 10% off the clearance prices!

I love this card I made for a Xyron and Spellbinders swap using some Little Yellow Bicycle from my stash.

This layout of my daughter and her Great Pyrenees was published in the Winter issue of Scrapbook and Cards Today using the Fancy Pants Timbergrove collection and Creative Scrappers sketch #259! So excited to say it was chosen as the editor's favorite!

I created this canning lid pumpkin for Love My Tapes, inspired by one I saw on Pinterest.

Let me know if you have a favorite.... Then hop on over to the very talented  Ashley N Newell's blog.
