Taco Tuesday - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

I am so excited to share my first layout with the August Main kit from My Creative Scrapbook. This gorgeous kit featured the Pink Paislee 5th And Monaco collection. I was feeling a tropical vibe and thought I could do a Taco Tuesday layout with a big title. My son rarely takes selfies, so I am glad his girlfriend does.

I love the bright colors in this collection against that dark background! I embellished with some fussy cut flowers, die cut ephemera, and enamel dots.
I love that big title. I created this one myself in Silhouette Studio and am kicking myself now because it doesn't appear that I saved it. Embellishments were kept to a minimum so all those pattern papers in the title get all the attention.
Please check out my YouTube video to see how this all came together ...

Easy Peasy - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

I am sharing another layout with the July Main kit from My Creative Scrapbook. This awesome kit features the Simple Stories Summer Farmhouse collection. This is the third layout I have created with the kit and I cannot believe how much product I still have left (paper and embellishments). For this layout I pulled out all things lemon and added a cut file from the Etsy store Handipaper. I decided to scrap a photo from our trip to Hawaii about 5 years ago.We went in February and escaping the cold Minnesota winter for a week was glorious. But when we were on Kauai is rained every single day! Well I was bound and determined not to let that ruin my vacation and spent a rainy afternoon poolside reading and sipping Mai Tais. The pool attendents must have thought I was crazy! Here is my layout...

The Simple Stories foam words were awesome to use for titles. I layered easy peasy right over one of the lemons.

This squeeze the day was fussy cut from one of the pattern papers with 3"x 4" journal cards.

I layered even more lemons around my photo.

I love the pink pattern paper with the lemons. It looks great torn along with the yellow gingham pattern paper.

I made a YouTube process video for this one. Check out how I colored my cut file with distress inks.

Summer Fun - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

I am sharing another layout with the July Main kit from My Creative Scrapbook. This awesome kit features the Simple Stories Summer Farmhouse collection. I had so much fun with the kit!! I used the fabulous July sketch for this layout....

Here is my layout ... I did not stray far at all.

One of our favorite summer destinations is Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota. It's a beautiful park with boat and bicycle rentals. We almost always rent a boat for a day and try our luck fishing. We had no luck at all on this outing, but we enjoyed being outside on this gorgeous lake! I decided to use a cut file from an earlier month. The sun on here seemed a must for summer. I added the Simple Stories foam titles on top for my title.

Here is where I deviated just a little from the sketch. The top of my layout felt like it needed a clothesline for this cute swimsuits.

You can see lots of gorgeous layers here. I tucked my journal card underneath my photo.

I played some more with my Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals to create my watercolor background. These powdered pigments are so fun to play around with.

You can see how it all came together here...

Summer Yummy - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

I am sharing my first layout with the July Main kit from My Creative Scrapbook. This awesome kit features the Simple Stories Summer Farmhouse collection. For my first layout, I wanted to use the large SUMMER title cut file from Paige Evans. This was one she was giving away for FREE in her Facebook group called Happy Scrappy Place. Ask to join the group and you too will have access to her FREE cut files and more. With this cut file I could use lots of the different pattern papers. Because of the watermelon pattern paper I decided to scrap some photos of my son enjoying some watermelon when he was about 2 years old. Here is my layout...
\

Now that background paper is a mixed media sheet from the Vicki Boutin Let's Wander Mixed Media Pad. I LOVE these mixed media sheets! This one in real life is green not yellow. I could not get the color right. Go figure ... the rest of the colors on the layout are fine. I elevated the title using some foam tape. My photos went over the hyphens that were part of the cut file.

I added embellishments right on top of the cut file to draw the eye from one photo to the other photo.

Chipboard stickers as well as cardstock stickers were included in the kit so there are plenty of options for embellishments. I love to create layers of embellishments.

Also included in the kit were the foam titles that coordinate with the Summer Farmhouse collection. I added YUMMY here just below the cut file where it would stand out.

Are you interested in seeing my process? Check out this YouTube Video ...

I had so much fun making this layout! Stay tuned ... I have 3 more layouts that I created with this kit coming. I hope you are finding some time to enjoy your summer too. Stay healthy and safe.

Sweet Treats - PageMaps

Hello blogging friends!

Can you believe its July already? That means it's time for July PageMaps sketches. This month I chose to work with this awesome single 12"x12" sketch with two photos.

Here is the layout I came up with...

When my daughter and I were sightseeing in Paris, we found the best macaron sweet shop just blocks from our hotel. Of course we had to try them. Would you believe it was my first time trying a macaron? It was so hard to decide. There were so many colors and flavors! I wanted my layout to depict that, so I found a macaron cut file in the Silhouette store and made a bunch in delicious bright colors. I also wanted to include Parisian ephemera pieces and found this sticker sheet from scrapbook.com.

The pattern papers are from various Paige Evans Pink Paislee collections; Horizon, Whimsical, and Truly Grateful. The subtle patterns and bright colors add interest.

For my title I combined the "sweet" from PinkFresh Studio's My Favorite Story puffy titles with an Amy Tangerine alphabet Thickers I had in my stash.

That scallop border is a rub on. It adds color that matches my macarons. I love the chipboard coffee cups here under my journaling.

Head on over to check out the other PageMaps sketches this month. There is sure something there to spark your creativity. Thanks so much for stopping by.

In A World Where You Can Be Anything, Be Kind

Welcome to the Papercrafters Unite Against Racism Blog Hop!

Many thanks to Justine Hovey for organizing this blog hop. There is also an Instagram hop and a YouTube Hop if you are interested in other social media platforms. The goal of this hop is to come together to stand behind our crafty sisters and brothers of color not just in the art industry, but also to show our support in the never-ending fight for equality all over the world.

I am so excited to be a part of this hop. While I am white, my extended family is a blend of white, black, and native american. I live in a suburb of Minneapolis which was affected by the riots after the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Many stores in my community were looted. I worry about my extended family members of color. But I see the other side too. My husband is a retired police detective and my oldest daughter is a 911 dispatcher. Yes, there are bad cops, but please remember, they are not all bad. We need police to keep us safe, respond to our medical emergencies, help unite our communities. Don't get me wrong, I am for police reform. Bad cops should be fired. If they commit crimes, they need to be held accountable.

Today I am scrapping a photo of my daughter and my niece. One is white. The other is mixed white and black. Since I am a cut file junkie, I went in search of a cut file and found this awesome one in an etsy shop called ShopMagnoliaDesigns,

I wanted bright colors that would pop against my black background and I decided on some Paige Evans Truly Grateful and Shimelle Never Grow Up. I had originally thought of using the Juneteenth colors; yellow, green, and red, so this worked perfectly.

I used a black Silhouette pen to sketch my hands onto different colored cardstock. I used the offset feature to modify the cut file to cut just the outside of the hands.

Love how these butterflies look like they will take flight!

The BE KIND letters were cut in the same cardstock as the hands underneath. I clustered die cut ephemera pieces with puffy stickers over the K.

I love adding bows to my projects too.

Hello Chicago - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

I am sharing my 4th layout today using the My Creative Scrapbook June Main kit which featured the Vicki Boutin Let's Wander collection (including a star stencil). I am continuing to document my daughter's first half marathon, the ChiHalf. I had no idea how early these die hard runners get up to run these races! We were up before 5:00 am catching an Uber to Jackson Park where the race would start. Of course it was pouring rain. I had purchased rain ponchos and umbrellas the day before (thankfully). There was no place to shelter really. just a few pop-ups. She queued up to race and was off a little after 7:00. Someone selling coffee near the starting line would have made a mint from bystanders like me!

These tennis shoes in the Let's Wander die cut ephemera pack inspired me to scrapbook these photos. I love the vellum "Heck Yes!" too.

I added the Hello Chicago for my title. These alphas are from my stash. I wanted to mimic the Hello's in the pattern paper. You can see I used the star stencil again on this layout and Vicki Boutin's Creative FX iridescent glaze.

The Fun Times in the City die cut ephemera tag was perfect. I added some journaling underneath.

I love the photo-op chipboard on this photo with the CHIHALF sign.

Please check out the My Creative Scrapbook kit club for more information about this awesome kit club.

It's too bad so many races have been canceled this year. Another Mother-Daughter trip may have to wait until 2021.

Carb Loading - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

Last fall my daughter ran in her first half marathon in Chicago. It was a good excuse for a Mother - Daughter trip. The day before the race, we were out carb-loading ... Chicago deep dish pizza is so so good! This 3rd layout with the My Creative Scrapbook June Main kit features the Simple Stories Going Places and the Vicki Boutin Let's Wander collection.

I added a mixed media background from Vicki Boutin's Let's Wander pre-made mixed media paper pad. This red and yellow background reminded me of pizza, lol. In the die cut ephemera pack was this guest check, perfect for documenting all the yummy things we tried.

My design makes use of a grid for my photos. This Count the Memories die cut was another perfect choice. I added the Carb Loading sub-title underneath.

Another cluster of food die cuts appears in the opposite corner from the Guest Check. Since trying local foods is a huge part of vacations, I love all the food icons and phrases in the Let's Wander collection.

Be sure to check out the My Creative Scrapbook kit club. These kits are packed with full of awesome goodies.
