Happy Day - My Creative Scrapbook

Hello blogging friends!

I'm sharing the 2nd layout I created for My Creative Scrapbook using the February Main kit. This kit featured pattern papers from the Simple Stories So Happy Together collection as well as papers from the PhotoPlay Paper We Are Family collection. The die cuts ephemera pack and chipboard are also from Simple Stories So Happy Together.

I really wanted to scrap this photo of my niece. She'll be graduating this year with a graduate degree in occupational therapy. Wahoooo! We are so proud of her!! I pulled out the blue  papers from PhotoPlay and used a FREE cut file from the Paper Issues online store. To set off the cut file, I created a mixed media background using some Vicki Boutin art crayons.

I did some crazy machine stitching around those circles...can you see?  The title comes from the Pebbles This Is Family puffy phrase stickers that were included in the kit. I love that copper foil look.

I saved the stars that were left from my cut file to use as embellishments.

I kept other embellishments to a minimum... I just didn't want flowers or hearts mixing with my stars. Does that make me OCD?

My Creative Scrapbook has 4 different monthly kits to choose from so there is definitely something for every scrapper! Be sure to check them out.

Here is my YouTube process video...

I also did a kit unboxing and process videos for all 4 layouts I created with the kit. Please check out those as well. Have a great week!

Camping Under The Stars - Stash Bash Flair

Hello blogging friends!

I am participating with some other designers in the June Stash Bash. This month we are focusing on using our flair; tin pins, decorative brads, enamel dots, woodies. I had some camping flair from A Flair For Buttons so I decided to do a camping layout.

The digital cut file I used is a free cut file from the Paper Issues on-line store. I wanted to back it with some plaid paper in my stash from the Photo Play Paper Lakeside collection.

I searched through my stash for camping embellishments and found these die cuts from the Imaginisce Happy Camper collection.

I also added some decorative brads from the Simple Stories Cabin Fever collection. This bear was perfect for a Northern Minnesota camping layout.

I wanted to set off the flair on a dark background and found this starry pattern paper from the Simple Stories Heart Simple Set. I cut out some semi-circles to frame the flair.

I like how the digital cut file frames my photo.

Here is the link to my process video. You can check out the other designer's Stash Bash YouTube videos too.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Top 10 Scrapbook Layouts of 2017 + a GIVEAWAY

Hello blogging friends!

I am so excited to be sharing my Top 10 scrapbook layouts with you again this year! If you are hopping along, you would have arrived from Suzanna Lee's blog. If not, no worries, you can start hopping at the end of this post. I have 2 Giveaways going on ... details are also at the end of this post.

1. Capturing Joy - The highlight of my year was being asked to design a cover for Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine Summer Issue! a COVER!!!  They ask 3 designers to create a layout with their supplied photo, title,  and journaling and choose one for the cover. Unfortunately, mine did not make the cover, but was still showcased inside! So 2017 was the year I was almost ... almost a cover girl. Here is my take. I used the Simple Stories Say Cheese III collection. It's totally cover worthy, right?

2. Winter Wonderland - I had a blast designing for JustNick Studios and Simple Stories! This layout I created with the Winter Wonderland collection and the Nordic Background 2 digital cut file.

3.  Sweet, I Love Your Face - Here is another JustNick Studios and Simple Stories layout using the Love & Adore collection and the Ring Around My Heart digital cut file. What could be cuter than selfies with your dog, lol.

4.  Mermaid Hair Don't Care -  Mid Year I started designing for Paper Issues. This layout was created with the electrifying Pink Paislee Summer Lights collection and FREE cut files from Paper Issues.

5.  Bring On Summer - Some fellow designers and I started doing a Stash Bash YouTube series a while back. Every month we pick an item in our stash and then create YouTube videos using that item from our stash. For July, it was washi tape. I love my washi tape! On this layout, I used loads of washi tape all down one side of a sheet of 8.5x11 cardstock. The only pattern paper used was the 12x12 background paper which was also Pink Paislee Summer Lights. The title and Sun were created using JustNick Studio digital cut files.

6.  Love You - This is another layout I created for Paper Issues using the beautiful Crate Paper Carousel collection by Maggie Holmes. It was prefect for my Myrtle Beach ferris wheel pic. I love the soft colors combined with the pop of black and white stripes ... and those gold thickers are amazing.

7. Life Is Amazing - I could not wait to get my hands on the awesome PinkFresh Studio's Escape the Ordinary collecton. There are some layouts that just come together so easily. This was one of them. Clearly I was having a short love affair with triangles this year! How could you not with amazing pattern papers like this one. I love the photo cropped in a triangle. Machine stitching emphasizes all  the triangles, then dimension was added with some Creative Embellishments triangle chipboard pieces that I found in my stash. Even more triangles were placed along the bottom using the Compressed Chevron digital cut file from JustNick Studios. The Life Is Amazing title is also from JustNick Studios.

8. Dream Big - This was another layout created for the Stash Bash YouTube series. In November, we challenged ourselves to use our spray mists. I used the plastic packaging smoosh technique to add splashes of color to my background after using a Silhouette sketch pen to draw this awesome dream catcher. It is a digital cut file in the JustNick Studios on-line store. I really wanted to do some hand stitching on the dream catcher ... ok a LOT of hand stitching! It took forever, but I love the end result. The feathers were also colored using the same ink as I used on my background. I embellished it with the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Bohemian Dream collection. This is another collection I could not wait to get my hands on! so GORGEOUS.

9. Poogan's Porch - I scrapped lots of photos from our vacation to South Carolina this year. Poogan's Porch was a favorite place we had lunch in Charleston. People, the food was AMAZING! I used the Pebbles Simple Life collection and a JustNick Studios digital cut file to create the background. I wanted to create the look of beautiful tin ceilings that you find in old houses.

10.  So Very Blessed - My last layout is another using the Crate Paper Carousel collection by Maggie Holmes and even more JustNick Studios digital cut files. I love this photo I captured of my niece's family. I printed it in black and white so as not to detract from the colors in the Carousel collection. The fabric black and white striped bows are stunning. I used some flair from Pretty Little Studios to add some whimsy.

Soak Up The Sun - Paper Issues

Hello blogging friends!

I am back today with some summer layout inspiration using the fun Fancy Pants Designs Hello Sunshine collection and a FREE digital cut file from the Paper Issues store. I love how bright and colorful the Hello Sunshine collection is. It's perfect for lots of summer photos including those beach pictures. I combined it with the FREE Sunburst Background and came up with this...

I did a lot of machine stitching on those sun's rays! I love the look of the white on white and with the ink splatters, it still feels like sunshine. I grounded my photo and embellishments using a strip of pattern paper.  All those fun tags and die cuts on both sides of my photo frame it so well. I especially love that flamingo!! Check out the detailed shots...

Here is the cut file I used today ...

Hello blogging friends!

I am back today with another layout for Paper Issues. Today we are spotlighting stitching, either by hand or by machine. I chose to use machine stitching on this layout using the gorgeous new Maggie Holmes Carousel collection.

Like A Boss - Paper Issues

Hello blogging friends!

I am playing along with the Paper Issues Pinspire Me challenge. Here is the fun mood board for August ...

I was inspired by those bright colors and thought it would be perfect to scrap a recent family paint night. It was the first time my daughter Naomi has ever done one. She wasn't too sure she could paint very well or that she would even enjoy it. She LOVED it!! We painted Matisse's Cat with Red Fish. Here is my layout ...

I printed an 8x10 photo of the Matisse Cat that Naomi painted and cut it into a grid. I wanted to create a tiled pattern for interest. I embellished my layout with the Fancy Pants Designs Dream Big collection. I love the encouraging quotes like this one in the die cut ephemera pack.

You can play along with the Paper Issue challenges in our Facebook group. We welcome everyone. Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great week!

Southern Favorites = Paper Issues

Hello blogging friends!

I am playing along with the Paper Issues Sketch Challenge today. Here is the sketch by the very talented Amy Coose ...

and here is my take using the Jen Hadfield Simple Life collection from Pebbles.

Our last night in Charleston we splurged and went to a fancy restaurant, Magnolias and I am so glad we did. It was outstanding!!!  I tried fried green tomatoes for the first time and absolutely loved them! I also had their shrimp and grits in a lobster sauce, WOW! so good. The Magnolias label is actually a photo I took of the sign outside and then fussy cut out. Other ephemera on this layout is from my stash. Here are some detailed shots....

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Enjoy the weekend!

Bring On Summer - Stash Bash YouTube Hop and a Giveaway!

Hello blogging friends!

It's been a while since I participated in a Stash Bash YouTube Hop and I am so excited to be back at it. This month we chose Washi Tape as the stash item to bash out. I love using washi tape! This one was easy for me.

I was inspired by this 8.5"x11" sketch ...

I flipped the sketch and used a variety of tropical washi tape I had recently bought at my local Micheals all up and down the left side...

I used the Bring On Summer digital cut file from JustNick Studios. It was perfect!

I matted this sheet with the washi tape onto another piece of teal blue cardstock and then mounted that on a sheet from the Pink Paislee Summer Lights collection.

I added some other items from my stash like this flamingo flair button and puffy stickers from the My Mind's Eye Palm Beach collection.

Here is my process video. I am giving away a $20 gift card to the Paper Issues online store on my YouTube channel. Stop by and leave a comment and subscribe to my channel. I will choose a winner on July 28th ...
