Holiday Gift Card Holder Tutorial - Lori Whitlock

Hello everyone!

I have a holiday gift card tutorial to share with you today. I love to give gift cards to friends and family so they can buy whatever they want. When gifted in such a pretty package, handmade by you, it's not the easy last minute gift so many people say they are. This Mitten Gift Card Holder (SVG, Silhouette) cut file can be found in Lori Whitlock's Store along with many other varieties of gift card holders. I used the new The Magic Of Christmas collection and also a pink pattern paper from the Our Little Princess collection.

Want to find out how to make them yourself?

1. Choose your papers and cut out all the pieces. I then like to ink the edges of the pattern papers to give the shapes dimension.

2. I wanted to add some sparkle to my snowflakes so I ran them through my sticker maker machine upside-down. This puts the adhesive on the top of the cut file. Then place it adhesive down on top of some glitter.

3. You could glue the sides and bottom of the mitten shut, but I prefer the look of machine stitching. Unlike adhesives that might give way over time, I know the mitten won't fall apart when stitched.

4. Next, glue the white mitten edge to the upper front and back pieces of the mitten. Use a brad to attach the snowflake to the heart then adhere to the front of the mitten with foam tape.

5. Decorate as you wish. I loved using the puffy stickers and brads from the Magic of Christmas collection. They were just the right size!

6. Then repeat! They are so fun to make you won't be able to stop. This green plaid mitten with a black heart is perfect for the guys on your list.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Be sure to check out Lori's Store for more holiday ideas.

Three Wisemen Box Card Tutorial - Lori Whitlock

Hello everyone!

I’ve been busy making more Christmas cards to send out to family and friends. Lori designed a new The First Noel Christmas collection and I thought it would be a great idea to use the sentiment phrase ephemera pieces instead of using the print and cut feature in Silhouette. This would also speed up my cardmaking, a huge plus right now! I used the Pop Up Three Wisemen Box Card (SVG, Silhouette) cut file along with the coordinating solid pattern paper from the collection. When the card is closed for mailing it is completely flat.

When open, it can stand up by itself. The middle pops out to form a box with a dimensional city scene and star of Bethlehem.

Let me show you how I created mine.
  1. Cut out all the pieces from desired cardstock and pattern papers. I used some Black Soot ink to darken the bottom and middle panel of the blue pattern paper pieces using an ink blending tool.

2.  Assemble the panels and box card inserts. The city scene can be left as is, or add another layer of color on top.

3. I wanted my Star of Bethlehem to really sparkle so I added some gold glitter gel. This needs to dry before you attempt to assemble the card.

4. Glue the panel with the wisemen to the card front about .5" from the bottom of the card lining up the edges on the left side. The opposite end of the panel is then adhered to the far right .5" from the bottom lining up the edges on the right side. The middle panel should fold the opposite of the card base to form a box.

5. Insert the city scene inside the box lining up the tabs to the top of the panel and adhere. Then glue the Star of Bethlehem insert behind.

Lori has lots of Christmas card ideas in her shop. Go check them all out and have some fun making your own Christmas cards!

You can find The First Noel collection and the Pops of Color glitter gel at at Scrapbook.com.

A Lumberjack Santa Tuxedo Box Card - Lori Whitlock

Hello everyone!

I have to admit, I slacked off in sending Christmas cards the past few years. Sometimes life is just so crazy busy! I want to rectify that this year. With Covid restrictions going back into place, it doesn't look like I'll get to see distant family for a while. Plus I should have lots of time on my hands since I won't be going out anywhere. I love making box cards because they do double duty as Christmas decor. Don't worry, these do fold flat for mailing! I was drawn to the new Lumberjack Santa Tuxedo Box Card cut file because I thought it would appeal to the young and old alike. This cut file can be found here (SVG / Silhouette ).

I used the Lori Whitlock A Lumberjack Christmas collection to create my card. The woodsy pattern papers are perfect! I added a just few stickers to embellish. Santa would look awesome in a plaid shirt too, I think. I'll have to make another card and try out that look.

There are lots of Holiday themed cut files available in Lori’s shop. Go check them out and join me in my card making frenzy.

Marcia Dehn-Nix <--- You are here!

There are so many amazing new cut files in the shop, like this Santa 3D Snow Globe Card (  SVG / Silhouette )! There are many other snow globe designs so be sure to check them all out.... and there are more coming soon. I couldn't wait to make this one and get a start on my Christmas cards. I used the Echo Park A Lumberjack Christmas collection for my card. I love those plaid snowflakes.

The assembly on this one is a bit tricky and I would suggest you watch Lori's YouTube video tutorial.
Instead of folding to the side as other box cards do, this one folds down to lie flat for mailing.

Christmas Cards - Pebbles Merry Little Christmas

Hello blogging friends!

I managed to make a few Christmas cards the other day with the Pebbles Merry Little Christmas collection and thought I should share them to inspire you to make some cards too. Christmas cards may seem a little old fashion, but receiving one in the mail delights me so much. There is just something more tangible to a real card versus receiving an electronic greeting. There is still time to create some Christmas cards to send out to your favorite people too.

To aid in the creative process, I like to sort my die cut ephemera pieces into categories. For these cards, I had Winter scene and Santa Claus piles. Then I start looking for coordinating pattern paper. For this card I cut the 3×4 journal card with the card sentiment from a sheet of pattern paper, adhered it to some white cardstock and added a border.

Sometimes the pattern paper reminds me of a digital cut file that I have. This cut file is from JustNick Studios. I just added some cute Santa die cut ephemera, a sticker, and a bow.

This card was created with one of the 3×4 journal cards cut from a sheet of pattern paper. This time I adhered it to some fun banners I cut out with my Jen Hadfield Banner Punch Board.

I couldn’t resist making a little winter scene on this card using the tiny stickers. They are so fun to add a little dimension. I almost made this a shaker card. Wouldn’t that have been fun!

There is still time to create some Christmas cards to send out to your favorite people too.

Pebbles Merry Little Christmas 12×12 paper pad
Pebbles Merry Little Christmas 6×6 paper pad
