Dirty Girls - Artful Delight

This is my final DT post at Artful Delight. It's time to see what some other fabulous designers can do with these awesome kits. I have thoroughly loved every minute of my 6 month term and I hope that I have inspired you, my friends, with my layouts. This is my 5th layout with the kit and I still had plenty of product to work with. I got brave and tried some new techniques too (dripping paint) and I love the end result.

This layout features my daughter Colette on the right with a couple of her friends. They had just finished the Dirty Girl Mud Run, a girl only 5K race that includes obstacles; very muddy obstacles. They were feeling as if they could do anything! Many of you know that Colette broke her neck in a car accident the summer of 2011. She had to wear a cervical collar for many months afterwards. When the collar came off she was still restricted to what physical activity she could do. Nothing high risk where she had a chance of falling. The restrictions were lifted in July and she wanted to do something to celebrate. She chose this race because it would challenge her physically and raised money for breast cancer. She even convinced a couple of her friends to run with her and several more came to watch. I am touched that she raised money for cancer too since I lost my best friend to cancer 18 months ago. The course took them a little over an hour to complete. I admit I was getting worried there toward the end after medics brought down a girl with a broken arm. I was so relieved when I finally spotted them nearing the last obstacle. 

Well, enough babbling, let me tell you about the layout. I love the My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing papers. Pink was perfect for this layout since they were raising money for breast cancer. But I also wanted to emphasize the mud. I used acrylic paint and let it drip under the photo and other places. It looks like the mud is running right off the photo into the layout! I also used a paint brush to splatter paint on the background. The title was cut with my Cricut to match the race logo. I painted the lower half of the alphas with brown acrylic paint. They actually had signs along the race course that said PMS ahead (Pretty Muddy Stuff), so I had to include that on the layout. The alpha stickers I used were from a previous Artful Delight kit, I ran out of "S"s on my alphas from this kit. This layout is based on sketch #231 at Creative Scrappers. I loved the large circle around the photos. I flipped the sketch on its side.

A Sister is the Best of Friends - Artful Delight

Happy Monday my friends!! I hope you all had a fun weekend. I created another layout with my fabulous Artful Delight scrapbook kit and am thrilled with how it turned out. My sister Tina turned 50 this past September and her co-workers threw her a surprise party. They contacted me to dig up some old pictures. This is one I came across. I thought a vintage photo would be perfect for these colorful Echo Park For the Record 2 papers. Here is my layout...

My sister is the one pushing me on the tricycle. I am not even a year old in this picture and my feet didn't even reach the pedals! My sister has always been there for me. I am so lucky to have her in my life. I am in love with the Studio Calico wood veneers in the kit. Why have I never tried them before? This is one of the reasons I love Artful Delight's scrapbook kits. The negative strip and doilies are from my stash. Here are a couple close-ups...

Bloom and Grow - Artful Delight

Happy Monday!! It's a very, very happy Monday for me. I got some happy mail over the weekend that I will share with you all later and some news that I can share with you now. A previous Artful Delight layout I created with the May kit is about to be published in the Winter Issue of Scrapstreet Magazine!! (and if you look at the current issue Fall 2012, I have 2 layouts published! See Team Spirit and Inspiration Way).

I had an awesome weekend. I got to spend time with both of my college girls and my Mom and Dad as well and I even got some scrapbooking done. This is my latest layout that I made with the October Artful Delight scrapbook kit using My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing collection....

 I just love the colors in this collection. I used the die cut as a journal spot, covering up the "Perfect Day" that was there. My daughter planted this sunflower in Kindergarten and brought the seedling home on the last day of school. We planted it in the garden and it grew, and grew, and grew!!!! So the first day of school with Colette heading off to First grade, I just had to take a picture of her standing by her flower.

Do you see that bee on the journal spot? He is from a Prima stamp set from a previous month's Artful Delight kit! I thought he would fit in perfectly with this collection too. I made a few more bees for the banner.

I just love these clothes pins too.

Never a Thumb Sucker - Artful Delight

Happy Monday! It feels like winter is upon us here in Minnesota with the cold weather we are having and there has even been snow in some parts of the state! It was a perfect excuse to stay inside (even though I should have been raking leaves.) and play with my Artful Delight scrapbook kit. Using the Cosmo Cricket Tea For Two papers in the kit, I created this layout of my daughter Naomi.

No, she was never a thumb sucker. Why suck a thumb when you have 5 fingers! This photo of her has always been one of my favorites. To suit the Cosmo Cricket papers, I sepia tinted the photo. The sketch is my own design.I think I am getting the hang of creating my sketches with Adobe Elements now...

Love Is ... Artful Delight

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful fall weekend. The fall colors are at their peak right now in Minnesota and it is so gorgeous. I received my October Artful Delight kit on Saturday and couldn't wait to play with it. I created this layout using the Echo Park For the Record 2 papers. This one features my son Trenton and his girlfriend at the State Fair. Abby really wanted a picture taken with these paper hats. Trenton did not want to wear it but finally did put it on for a picture. Trenton is settling into dorm life at college, got a 100% on his first math exam, and has even started a part-time job at a local grocery store working in the bakery. Yeah!!!

Happy Birthday - Artful Delight inspiration

Happy Monday everyone! I am in the middle of the Minnesota North Woods enjoying the fall colors and some time away with the hubby. I could get used to this empty nester thing. Before I left, I created another layout. I am so enjoying my September Artful Delight scrapbook kit. I have a Happy Birthday layout to share with you today.

I just love the starburst paper from the October Afternoon Cakewalk collection. It just fits this party photo I had from my daughter Naomi's 7th birthday so perfectly. By using it on half of my layout it kind of shows how this party went from calm to wild and crazy. Feed kids a little sugar and this is what happens, lol. The title strip is from the Echo Park Birthday Girl collection. I used the October Afternoon washi tape, tin pin, buttons, and flyers on this one for my embellishments.

I even used the stamps in the kit to experiment with the washi tape (also incuded in this awesome kit!). I used black StazOn ink here.

Celebrate - Artful Delight

Happy Monday everyone!! It was a very busy weekend for me at Scrapfest. I helped out with the Make and Takes in the Imaginisce booth and took a class with Tim Holtz from Ranger Inc!!!! Tim is such a dynamic personality and its obvious that he truly loves teaching others what he loves. If you ever get a chance to take a class from him, DO IT!! Then I dashed off to help my sister celebrate her 50th birthday.

But now I can't wait to share this awesome layout I created with the Kaisercraft Save the Date papers and diecuts that were included in the September Artful Delight kit. I really like how this one turned out. This is my son Trenton at his last birthday. The cake was made by his girlfriend Abby and was gluten free. She decorated it with Kit Kats and pretzel M&Ms.

The diecuts in the kit were really fun to use and make creating a layout fast and easy; no fussy cutting on this one. I created my own confetti with a hole punch and sprinkled some on my page.

And how fun are these balloons!

I used the stamp in the kit to stamp this Happy Birthday on one of the diecuts.

Enjoy Life - Artful Delight

Happy Monday everyone!! Who is going to Scrapfest this weekend at the Mall of America? I am working a make and take table for Imaginisce, so if you are there you better stop by and say Hi! I have a layout to share with you today that I made with the September Artful Delight scrapbook kit. This is another amazing kit you do not want to miss out on. I am always amazed at how well everything in the kit goes so well together. I used three different collections for this layout; October Afternoon's Cakewalk, Fancy Pants Be You, and Kaisercraft's Save the Date. I based my layout on the sketch by Abby Laubenstein for the September sketch challenge.

Going to the Minnesota State Fair is always a thrill for me. As a kid, my parents took me down this slide. When I had kids, I took them down this slide. Now that we are empty nesters, I made my husband go down the slide with me. He looks like he enjoyed it though ;)  I miss my kids, but somehow going down this slide made me feel better as I remembered all the times in the past we enjoyed it.

I have been enthralled with negative space of late. I cut the stars out from the yellow pattern paper on my Cricut. Then went back and handcut the stars out after layering my banners on. I applied the washi tape in the kit to a piece of scratch paper and adhered it to the underside. Inking the edges of the openings makes the stars pop even more. I love how this turned out.

I hope you all had an awesome Labor Day weekend! I spent my weekend digging up potatoes, canning tomatoes, and trying out new recipes, like Butternut Squash soup. It was delicious by the way.

Freshman Formal - Artful Delight

Happy Monday everyone! I am sad to say that this is my last reveal using the August Artful Delight scrapbook kit. The good news is that means the September kit will be in the mail soon! Did you see my sneak peak on Saturday? It's incredible, full of Kaisercraft, Echo Park, October Afternoon, and Fancy Pants.
Today's layout features my daughter Colette all dressed up for her Freshman Formal with her friends. I used the Basic Grey Paper Cottage papers. They were perfect for all the colors in this photo....

I used the left side of this sketch from the Basic Grey blog August challenge....

 

This paper was so perfect for fussy cutting....

and if you haven't noticed, I really made use of those rub-ons. They are so fun!!!

These stickers were fun to use too...

The kits are packed with the papers by Bo Bunny, Prima and Basic Grey's new Paper Cottage. They are the best!!! I still have lots of paper and embellishments left after creating 4 layouts this month with my August kit.

It's Minnesota State Fair time, so yesterday we headed to the fair. This is one of my favorite things at the fair!

I convinced my hubby to go down with me!

My son came home from college for the weekend with his girlfriend and tagged along with us. They are so adorable together. And of course we tried lots of different fair food....

I call this one "Synchronized Cheese Curd Eating".
