Graduation Day - Paper Issues

Hello blogging friends.

Paper Issues has a Project Life challenge going on in June where you are to incorporate memorabilia into your design. Memorabilia could be ticket stubs for example. I thought I would join in and create my first ever PL layout. I used the Simple Stories Grad collection simple set and Simple Stories PL pages.

I ended up cutting my ticket in half to fit the pockets here. I used a stamp to stamp the graduates on plain white cardstock. I embellished with some cardstock stars.

That long pocket was perfect for holding my daughter's tassel!

I did some pattern paper layering here, added more stars, and used washi tape to balance out the washi tape used to hold the tassel down.

Be The Change - Clique Kits and JustNick

Hello blogging friends!

I am back today with my 4th layout using the May Clique Kit Northern Lights. Since I am not a PL scrapper, I like to look for new ways to use those PL cards that are in every Clique Kit. This PL card stood out for me; 'Let your smile change the world, but don't let the world change your smile'. I knew I wanted to use it on a layout ... and lucky for me my daughter left this selfie on my phone, lol. Maybe the political campaign is getting to me as this layout reminds me of the Bernie Sanders commercial Together. He really does have the best political commercials out there.

I used a JustNick digital cut file called Bits and Pieces Heart. If you look closely you can see I cut apart another PL card and used it to fill my negative space behind my cut file. Since that Smile PL card contained blues and purples, I then choose blues, purples, white and black pattern papers from the Basic Grey Urban Luxe and Fancy Pants Designs Attwell collections to fill the remaining negative spaces.

I left the rest of my layout relatively simple. Because I wanted to keep the heart shape prominent, I added embellishments on top of my photo. That Hey Chica die cut also went with my color scheme. I added a few alpha stickers and a puffy heart sticker from the Fancy Pants Attwell collection. I tucked a tag behind my photo for my journaling.

Saturday Share - Imaginisce

Each Saturday an Imaginisce designer shares a Project Life page. I don't have a life to do Project Life with 3 kids in college but I do like the pages for organizing my vacation photos so that I can share my trip with family and friends quickly. But I took a stab at generating a Thanksgiving Project Life page which of course had to be about this little competition my husband and I have. You see we have a turkey war going on. Each Thanksgiving my husband fries a turkey and I do a traditional oven turkey. The competition, who cooks the tastiest bird. Last year he won, due to a new injectable marinade I tried when I couldn't find any Cajan injectible marinade since my local Gander Mountain closed. My husband's family and my family get together to feast on more than just turkey. It's not Thanksgiving in a Nix house without Grandma Nix's cream peas and its not Thanksgiving in a Dehn house without my sister's pies (made with my Mom's pie crust recipe). Holidays are great for documenting family traditions. While its important to capture those memories on film, don't forget to document other important family traditions like those coveted recipes passed down from generation to generation. I want my kids to have these recipes so that they can carry on with the tradition so I thought why not include them on my Project Life page. I love that my family can celebrate Thanksgiving with both sides of the family, even if it means all (30-40 some people) are at our house.

Because I want to be able to pull the recipes out to use them, I adhered my embellishments on top of the plastic over these pockets. I ran the Project Life Journal Cards through my computer printer to document our families recipes.
