Artful Delight Week 2! Valentine Card and Love What You Do Layout

Artful Delight is featuring a card and a layout of mine this week. I wanted to play with the adhesive backed canvas that is included in the kit. It cuts with the Cricut beautifully, you can add color with mists, or inks, or stains, and you can emboss it!! Take a look at my card and specifically those canvas hearts...
For my layout, I wanted to showcase a poem my daughter Naomi wrote. Daniel Likes My Tattoos  is her first published poem. She oohed and aahed over the Jillibean soup Sweet and Sour collection papers in the kit. They are perfect for showcasing your kids schoolwork or even your own creative writing. I printed the poem on the Simple Stories Year-o-graphy paper included in the kit.
When Naomi turned 18 she got her first tattoos, these birds on her back. She selected this prom dress to showcase those birds! Prom was a couple weeks after the tattoos, so they had healed nicely by then. Here are some closeups (of the papers, not the tattoos, lol)
The Jenni Bowlin flowers are gorgeous!

What is this fascination with tattoos? My other daughter Colette also got a tattoo when she turned 18, and tells me she is getting a second one this weekend. And son Trenton, who turns 18 in June, is already trying to decide what tattoo he should get! Anyway, the poem is about a boy Naomi used to babysat. Daniel loved her tattoos, much to the consternation of his mother.

Daniel Likes My Tattoos
By Naomi Nix
He asks to see them when I babysit.
His short arms wrap around my leg,
and his sharp chin sinks into my thigh.
“Please,” he whispers, cheeks radiant,
long lashes flapping over pale, grey eyes.
I hesitate, worried that his mom will catch me,
but Daniel is insistent. We sit down on the stairs.

He sweeps away my heavy hair
and presses his warm, open palms against the birds on my back,
checking to see if the bold colors stain his hands
or smear across the blades of my shoulders.
Through my shirt, I feel his small, smooth knees
softly push my spine as he leans into me,
concentrated, mesmerized,
tracing every outline with the pads of his fingers.
His Mom comes out of the kitchen
and buttons her cuffs around her wrists.
Traces of a cringe pull the corners of her mouth down.
She tells her three-year old that tattoos hurt –
that they stick needles in you for hours
and blood gushes everywhere.
Daniel just smiles because he doesn’t believe her.
She can’t sway him from his quest to be like me.
His hot, sugary breath tickles my ear
as he whispers sweet plans
for the monsters and basketballs
that will one day cover his own arms and legs –
a desire only I would understand,
a secret only we would share.

Pretty good! But then I am her mother so I am biased. The Daniel's Mom is still a dear friend of mine, even after the tattoos.
